William Jarvis hails from one of racing's best known families, and took over the licence at Phantom House Stables from his father, Ryan in 1985.
His early years were spent as assistant to triple Melbourn Cup-winning trainer, George Hanlon in Australia, and five enjoyable years with Henry Cecil, as well as riding with some success as an amateur jockey.
William, aged 41, has an impressive record as a trainer, having trained nearly 30 Group or Listed winners, and boasts a winner on every Flat racecourse in Britain!
One of his principle owners was the late Lord Howard de Walden, and Lady Howard de Walden is still an enthusiastic owner with William.
It is fitting that Lord Howard was the proud owner of GRAND LODGE, William's best horse to date. Grand Lodge was champion juvenile of Europe in 1993 after winning the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. As a 3 year old he won the Group 1 St.James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and was beaten a short head in the 2000 Guineas and the Champion Stakes, before retiring to stud to Coolmore in Ireland.
The start of the Millennium was made special by the success of Papabile, Grand Lodge's full sister. She won The Valiant Stakes and the Fern Hill Rated Stakes at Ascot.
She is now a broodmare at Lady Howard de Walden's Plantation Stud. Her first foal is a filly by Giants Causeway called Papality, and is coming to
Phantom House to be trained by William
Late Night out was a wonderfully consistent horse who performed at the highest level in 6 different countries. His owner/breeder John Greetham, is a stalwart of the yard, and has a nice two year-old colt Cleaver, by Kris in training now.
William has been lucky enough to have the valuable advice and expertise of Julie Cecil, since she quit training four years ago. Essential to the smooth running of the yard are the very capable head girl, Karen Parris, and the efficient, friendly secretary, Bee Rudd. What a formidable team!
He is a keen advocate of syndicates in racehorse ownership and makes sure that all owners are made welcome any time, and are treated to a slice of his not inconsiderable hospitality! Shares in horses are normally available, contact William or Bee if you would like more information.
The star of the show for this season has undoubtedly been Flownaway, who is fast developing into a top class staying horse and will be in training next year.
