Robert enjoyed a tremendous 2010 which resulted in 21 winners, his best season to date. He has had a thorough grounding, having been assistant to John Hammond in France for 2 years, at the time when Suave Dancer and Polar Falcon were among the stable stars. In 1993 he moved to become assistant to Neil Drysdale in America before launching his own training career in California. By 1997, after considerable success, Robert decided to return to England as he had a larger group of owners willing to back him.

He is training at Bottisham Heath Stud, which provides an excellent privately owned base for Robert and his wife, Ghislaine, along with their 9 year old son, Alex and 7 year old daughter, Kara.

The facilities here are considerable, and consist of stabling for 40 horses in the form of an American-style barn, and a traditional English stable yard. There are two covered horse-walkers, a seven furlong Polytrack gallop with an uphill finish, roadways and tracks, and plenty of paddocks for turning the horses out.

The yard is sponsored by 'Robert Cowell Racing'

FOREVER PHOENIX was a considerable money-spinner during the 2006 campaign winning six races and over £150,000 in prize money including a decent prize in Dubai. BINIOU won a listed race at the back end of 2007, and the yard had plenty of success with their two year olds in 2008.
In 2009 CANADIAN DANEHILL won twice at Newmarket, HIGH SPICE won her debut race on Guineas day here at Headquarters, and BINIOU won three of his four races at Thirsk, Newmarket and Nottingham.

2010 was a great season: highlights include PROHIBIT winning three times, including The Shergar Cup Dash at Ascot, and The Scarborough Stakes (Listed) at Doncaster. Several of the older horses put a string of wins together, and once again Robert had tremendous winning success with the two year olds.

For the 2011 season, Robert will train 30+ horses, including plenty of exciting and lightly raced three year olds, and some nicely bred two year olds - a mixture of homebreds and those bought from the sales.

Robert is a great believer in communicating regularly with his owners. He is always contactable by email.

Bottisham Heath Stud is completely self contained and peaceful, and provides a welcoming atmosphere for owners and potential owners. It is ideally suited to keeping the horses happy and helping them to achieve their full potential, with Robert's expertise of course!
