| Robert enjoyed a tremendous 2007 which ended on a high with Biniou landing a Listed race in France.
He has had a thorough grounding, having been assistant to John Hammond in France for 2 years at the time when Suave Dancer
and Polar Falcon were among the stable stars. In 1993 he moved on to become assistant to Neil Drysdale in America before launching
his own training career in California. By 1997, after considerable success, Robert decided to return to England as he had
a larger group of owners willing to back him.
He is training at Bottisham Heath Stud, which provides an excellent privately owned base for Robert and his wife, Ghislaine,
along with their 6 year old son, Alex and 4 year old daughter, Kara.
The facilities here are considerable, and consist of stabling for 40 horses in the form of an American-style barn,
and a traditional English stable yard. There are two covered horse-walkers, a seven furlong Polytrack gallop with
an uphill finish, roadways and tracks, and plenty of paddocks for turning the horses out.
The yard is sponsored by 'SPORTS CAFÉ'. Rodger Sargent and Chris Akers, both long standing owners with Robert, are involved
with this superb establishment.
FOREVER PHOENIX was a considerable money-spinner during the 06 campaign winning six races and over £150,000 in prize money
including a decent prize in Dubai. This year Canadian Danehill (6 wins) and Biniou (listed winner) held the fort and kept
the stable knocking at the door at the highest level.
For the 2008 season, Robert will train 25+ horses, including plenty of exciting and lightly raced 3 year olds, and the yearlings
which he has been busy buying in Kentucky. The string will consist of nine 2 year olds and the rest older.
Robert is a great believer in communicating regularly with his owners. Last year, he launched his new website,
which has a special 'client' section where each owner can log in and receive personal information about their own horse
and its current entries. He is always contactable by email.
Bottisham Heath Stud is completely self contained and peaceful, and provides a welcoming atmosphere for owners
and potential owners. It is ideally suited to keeping the horses happy and helping them to achieve their full potential,
with Robert's expertise of course!
