The yard itself is steeped in history, having been built in 1884 by the legendary jockey, Fred Archer, initially to house his hunters and coach horses. Although Fred did not train himself, many trainers have pursued successful careers and sent out prolific winners from Pegasus Stables. James is no exception to the rule, and now has a strong team of horses in his care, and an excellent staff. He tries to create a relaxed atmosphere, and provide the best possible facilities for the horses. Major repairs are continually being carried out to restore the yard to its former splendour, including renovating the clock and clock tower, and constructing a row of boxes in a similar style to the original. James has been training at Pegasus Stables since he first took out a licence
in 1990, having previously been assistant to Michael Stoute.
