INTRODUCTION BY MARK TOMPKINS
I am pleased to be involved with the Newmarket Trainers Website, and hope it will be a good source of information for Internet users all over the world. Newmarket, is, after all, the Head Quarters of British Racing -
2017 has got off to quite a slow start for Newmarket Trainers but there is still a long way to go
and lots of Group races to be won!
Martyn Meade kicked off the season with a good win in the Craven Stakes at Headquarters, with EMINENT,
ridden by Jim Crowley, and Joh Gosden took the Oaks with ENABLE ridden by Frankie Dettori.
Royal Ascot, although dominated by Aiden O’Brien’s horses, saw some good winners for Newmarket, starting with a fairy tale first Royal Ascot winner for new trainer, Richard Spencer and RAJASINGHE (Stevie Donohue), CORONET won the Ribblesdale for John Gosden (Olivier Peslier). He also took the Queen’s Vase with STRADIVARIUS (Andrea Atzeni)
The ever popular BIG ORANGE hung on determinedly to scoop the Gold Cup for Michael Bell and James Doyle, while the Diamond Jubilee was won by THE TIN MAN for James Fanshawe and Tom Queally. John Gosden continued his winning ways in the Lancashire Oaks with THE BLACK PRINCESS (Robert Tart) and Michael Stoute took the Coral Eclipse with ULYSSES (Jim Crowley). Glorious Goodwood saw The Qatar Vintage Stakes won by Michael Stoute’s
EXPERT EYE (Andrea Atzeni), BRETON ROCK took the Lennox Stakes for David Simcock,
while John Gosden won the Goodwood Cup with STRADIVARIUS, both ridden by Andrea Atzeni. York saw
Michael Stoute win the Juddmonte International with ULYSSES (Jim Crowley), and John Gosden took the Great Voltigeur and the Yorkshire Oaks with CRACKSMAN & ENABLE , both ridden by Frankie Dettori, while MARSHA won the Nunthorpe for Sir Mark Prescott and Luke Morris. The Celebration Mile at Goodwood was won by LIGHTNING SPEAR
for David Simcock and Oisin Murphy.
Potential owners have so many trainers to choose from here, in just about every price bracket, and all have
use of the outstanding gallops, which continue to be so superbly maintained by
Mr.William Gittus, the Managing Director at Jockey Club Estates, and his Heath men.
There is no doubt that Newmarket is the Number One place to train racehorses,
and I am proud to chair the Newmarket Trainers Federation,
which represents so many people with so much talent.
